The 'Gerddi Herd' was established by my father Elwyn Pryce Evans in 1969, and has been a closed herd since 1986. No stock bulls are purchased, as over the years we have built up a Genus flask for Artificial Insemination and we now have a total of 26 different bloodlines, some dating back over 40 years.
The farm converted to Organic in 1999, and is certified by the Soil Association. The farm is also in a farm assurance scheme (FAWL).
All the cattle are out-wintered. We are able to do this as they are extremely hardy, and they adapt and cope with all weather conditions.
Over the years the 'Gerddi Herd' has won the Welsh Black Cattle Society Small Herd of the Year 9 times.
